We have only worked two sessions together so far, and yet I’ve learned SO MUCH of what to do and not do, when working with a videographer. So, today I (McKenna) am going to share my top three takeaways to working with a videographer to make for a seamless session for your couples.
With every pose that I put our couples into, find a way to add movement. That way for video, you can get more variety. Adding movement is really easy, for example if you have your couple belly button to belly button with their foreheads together, have them go in for a kiss real quick. Or have him whisper in her ear. The smallest amount of movement can make a huge difference for video and is really considerate to the videographer.
Composition is key! With every pose I put our couples in, I try and get a lot of different angles to add more to the gallery. Video is the same way! So have the videographer stick close to you for most of it, so you both can get close up’s, and far away shots without being in each other’s way. Clayton for the most part stood right next to me so we could not waist time and get variety!
Make sure to ask if the videographer got all the shots he needs. Since I’m in the “photographer” mindset of directing my couples its easy to forget about the videographer, which in the case is Clayton. When I made sure to ask him if he got what he needed before moving on the next shot, it was a lot more seamless. It’s easy to forget. But try to always ask before going on to the next pose.
Learning to work with a videographer takes extra “brain power” when you’re already thinking about a million things as a photographer! If you can make sure to add movement, stick close to each other so you get variety, and ask if they got their shots before moving to the next pose, working with videographers will be a lot easier! I can’t wait to learn more tricks to share as we Clayton and I work more together.
