We are crazy people. Who in their right mind would drive 4 hours with a toddler and a 2 week old just to get pictures taken? We would. Or more like McKenna would, and she would convince Clayton to let her!
Although this was my idea, I was originally planning to hire a newborn photographer in Rexburg. Long story short, I guess I’m extremely picky when it comes to newborn photography. I did find someone though, but she quickly informed us that we were the wrong fit.
At first I was really upset. I didn’t like anyone else in the area and so I was scared we wouldn’t get newborn pictures for Sadie at all. Joyce had such gorgeous newborn pictures taken from the amazing Shandi, but Shandi lives in Spokane Washington.
I really wanted to find a photographer who was true to color, could add a splash of color, while still being minimalistic. I imagined Sadie would have hair just like Joyce’s, so I planned her session colors to be dusty blue, light yellow, with some pinks and white mixed in. To out surprise, she came out with red hair!
Just for fun I started looking for a photographer in Utah and that’s when I found Marina. When I came across her website I literally gasped at her pictures. They were so gorgeous! I HAD to have her. But how? I ran the idea past Clayton, and to my surprise he said “let’s do it”!
So off we went. The colors I picked for Sadie’s session were dusty blue, light yellow, pink and white. So after filling out Marina’s questionnaire for the session I just had to wait for sweet Sadie to arrive.
Once Sadie finally made her appearance, I let Marina know and we scheduled the session. We made our way up to Utah on Friday and took a “pit stop” at My mom’s house in Malad Idaho. To our surprise we got to have the whole house to ourselves. The next day we drove the rest of the way down to Spanish Fork.
Once we got there, Marina worked her magic and somehow got an overtired toddler (Joyce) to smile while holding Sadie. My mind was blown! During Sadie’s session she definitely made Marina work hard, but she still got gorgeous images!
Even though it was a really hard trip, I’m SO SO SO glad we did it! Newborn pictures are so important to me, especially when our babies don’t stay tiny for too long. So wether your broke or have the money, I say find a way to MAKE IT HAPPEN when it comes to newborn pictures. You’ll regret it when your cuties are all grown up.
